Where is a ruler when you need one?

August 7, 2009

After getting drinks I ask my table if they have any questions. The gentleman at the tables tells me he would like to order a pepperoni pizza. Simple enough. “Would you like our 12 inch pizza, or our personal size 8 inch pizza”? “Whichever one is bigger”. What I wouldn’t give for a ruler right about now. After explaining the difference between 12 and 8 inches, he opted for the 12 inch, but somehow still looked slightly confused.

I HATE having to explain to people that the number is the diameter, and the bigger the number, the larger the pizza.
Also, when people specify that they would, in fact, like cheese on their pizza: “I would like a 12″ pizza with cheese, sausage, and mushrooms.” Like we weren’t planning on putting cheese on the pizza until you ordered it!
Lastly, I live in Chicago. It’s a pizza town. Learn the difference between thin crust, deep dish, and stuffed pizza and understand what you’re ordering (especially if you’re calling in an order!) because having to explain it is getting REALLY old. And when the menu says that deep dish and stuffed pizzas take approx. 50 minutes to cook, that means ALL THE TIME! Not just when we’re busy. In fact, when we’re busy they’ll take LONGER than that because the cooks won’t start them the instant i hit “send” on my POS in the dining room.
