What Can I Say? I Don’t Know My Drinks!

This isn’t a rant on customers, but a serving slip-up of mine, which
was quite hilarious.

I had just transferred restaurants within the chain to a larger
location with a bar. I hadn’t worked with a full bar in over a year,
and I had just turned 21, so I didn’t really have that much experience
with all of the crazy drinks and shots that alcohol enthusiasts know
so well.

It was the 4th of July, and I’d had a pretty long day, and by the
time I got to work, I was pretty tired. To top it off the restaurant
was slow that night, so I didn’t get a chance to build up any
momentum. I had this one table, and about halfway through the meal,
this guy, who seemed to be the son-in-law decided he was going to
surprise the table with red, white, and blue drinks.

First he orders a blow job, which I did actually recognize as a drink
I’d heard before, so all is good so far. However, he does ask if
that’s the one with the whipped cream on it, and I explain that I’ve
just turned 21, and don’t really know much about mixed drinks yet,

He brushes it aside, and goes onto the next. Now, keep in mind that
he’s ordering quietly to keep it a surprise for the table….

“Cape Cod” he says

“What was that?” I ask

“Cape Cod” he says again…

I don’t want to keep making him repeat himself, but I can hardly
believe my ears……still, instead of asking “what?” again, I quietly
*repeat* the drink back to him:

“Kid Cock?”…..

I immediately gather from the shocked expression on his face, and the
rational side of my brain that kicked in and said “who in their right
mind would create/order a drink called Kid Cock?”…that this was not
what he said.

I look across the table at the father in law who is starting to
laugh. I look back at the guy and try to explain myself…

“I told you…I don’t know anything about mixed drinks…you ordered
a blow job…I don’t know….it could’ve been anything…”

The father in law chimes in: “she’s right, you did order a blow

By now the guy’s laughing, and we finally establish his drink
Maybe I’m an idiot, but whatever, it was funny! They also tipped me
pretty generously, so I guess it was entertaining enough for them :)

That’s hilarious and you were rewarded for being honest. That is what the customer wants. Pure honesty , no bs.

I love that! At least they were nice about it. When I worked at Starbucks I once had someone order a ‘large hot cock… of coffee’.. ‘I mean cup of coffee…..’ silence. awkward.
