“Unidentified Foreign Objects”

October 14, 2009

Today I had a classy group of people who were suspiscious from the get go, lots of questions about prices always a dead giveaway for the cheapasses. I brought their food out and checked back a few minutes later and they all seemed to be enjoying the dishes. After they had almost finished their meals I went up to the table to see if they needed boxes. As soon as I approched, the head cheapass alerted me to the fact he had found metal in his pasta. I immediately took the plate apologized and brought the dish back to be inspected by the head chef. As I walked back I noticed the “metal” in the pasta was the crumpled up butter wrappers, it all makes sense now. I alerted my manager about this complication and he proceeded to talk to the table. The cheapass has a tricky way of not backing down, he will insist on getting everything taken care of. These particular cheapasses were lucky, I worked for a ridiculously corporate restaurant that would take care of any guest complaint and offer them dessert on the way out. That stings!!!!!!!!

I’ll never understand that policy! If someone’s a scam artist or even just sincerely hard to please, why would the management WANT them to come back? Maybe they’re afraid of slander, but truly, the con artists aren’t gonna be bitching to their friends because they know nothing was wrong, and the pissy ones are likely to complain no matter what. Obviously there are some times when a comp is truly in order, but management should leave it to the server to know the difference. The increased morale will benefit the establishment much more than sucking up to jerks ever could!
