Tip

I once had a table. It was a woman about 30-35, and two kids around 6
and 8. There were two of us servers, and almost no tables so
everything went pretty smooth until she was about to pay. She came up
to the register, I told her her total. She said she would pay with a
card. I punch her total in the card reader, and say “Whatever you pay
above the total is converted to tip, so pay what you would like to
pay.”. She punches in a sum, and the machine gives a beep with the
message “Amount too low.” I tell her that she needs to put in the
total with tip, and she says to me with a straight face that “she
should be able to only press in half the amount, and that the rest
could be taken from my tip”. A bit surprised, I say “I’m sorry, it
doesn’t work that way.” She then procedes to go into a tantrum,
strolling around in the restaurant while shouting how stupid I am to
not pay for her food. She ignores everything I say from then on, and
ends up paying the other server for her food after she’s calmed down.
Of course no tip.
