A few months ago I had a family at my table. They were normal guests, nothing specific. However, about an hour after they left, the mother and the teenage son returned. She was livid because apparently he had left his retainer on the table in a napkin and it had been cleared by our bussers. The mother insisted on making her very embarrased 14 year old son dig through our trash can to find his retainer. He dug through the trash for about an hour with her breathing down his neck and scolding him in front of our whole staff. Needless to say, they never found the retainer. Talk about mommy issues though, I still think about that kid and wonder if he has ever been able to have any normal female relationships after being dominated so hard by his mom.

Do you have any idea how expensive those things are? I have seen several people come back looking for those after leaving them behind. And yes, that includes asking to go thru the trash. For all you know, he is habitually careless with it and this was the last straw. I’m sure he’ll recover…I mean, she didn’t make him strip down naked to find it, did she?
I once had a lady frantically scavenge my entire restaraunt looking for her wedding ring. Why she took it off is beyond me, but after nearly an hour of searching she found it. In her pocket.
